Since 1993, Mjita has been working with handmade textiles, and we began manufacturing cushions from them at about the same time.
We began by bringing beautiful, hand woven textiles from our journeys in Africa, and soon discovered that our prospective clients often asked us whether cushions or throws could be made from it.
For a while, we struggled to find people who could help our clients by working this fabric to meet their needs, but as the demand grew, we thought it would be a great idea to start doing it ourselves. After all, we understood the delicacy of working with hand made fabrics better than anybody.
Hand Woven Textiles
Hand woven fabrics offer unique challenges for people working with them, with a greater tendency to fray, and more stretch, than commercially produced fabric.
It took us a long time to get the process just right, and we learned the intricacies of the procedure along with our staff who have shared this journey with us, but in the end we could create products from these great fabrics that met our exacting quality standards.
Today, with years of experience, we’re able to maintain the integrity of the fabric, and still produce items that are utilitarian as well as beautiful.
Caring For Your Hand Woven Fabrics
Always keep in mind that these items are handmade, and will need to be cared for as such. We recommend avoiding long periods of exposure to sunlight, liquid spillage and too much partying on them. If you follow these simple guidelines, your unique, hand crafted cushions, pillows, throws, bags or other items should last a long time.
